Video to DVD Transfer: Frequently Asked Question

Video tapes...

What formats of video do you accept?
Video tape formats include VHS, S-VHS, and VHS-C.
We also accept most camcorder tapes such as Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV, HDV, U-Matic and Betamax.

NTSC tapes: VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV, HDV, Betamax, U-Matic.
PAL tapes: VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV.

What about LP/EP mode?
The quality is not guaranteed if your tapes have been recorded in LP/EP mode.

What if my tape is longer than 120 minutes?
If a tape is less than 2 hours of video it will be converted to one DVD, if a tape longer than 2 hours it will be split into multiple DVDs to keep the best possible quality.

Will my original tapes be sent back to me?
Yes, you will receive your original tapes packaged with your DVDs.

Will you convert copyrighted movies?
No. We’re sorry, but MyDVD Studio's services are only available for non-copyrighted movies.
If you send us a copyrighted video, please provide us a letter authorizing you/your company to copy the video to DVD.

Please don’t send us any copyrighted tapes. Sorry but they will be returned you back for your expense.

I am concerned about the privacy of my video tape/movie film.
We value your privacy so we will only do what is necessary to convert it to DVD. We have no need to watch your entire video/movie – only to set it up for conversion. After the conversion is completed, all temporary files are deleted.

How long my DVD can be?
Up to 2 hours. However, we do recommend it be around 90 minutes to maintain highest quality possible

Will the DVD play on my video DVD player?
95% of the DVD players sold since 1999 can play the recordable DVDs we create. The other 5% (older models) may have problems playing recordable DVDs, regardless of who created it.

Will the DVD play on my computer?
Yes, it will work on your computer if you have a DVD drive installed on it and a special software to run DVD.
* Please note, by default Windows Media Player does not play DVD.

Can I get multiple copies of my DVD disc?
Of course. They make great gifts for family members. Copies are identical to the original. See our price list for details.

What is final DVD format?
Our final format is DVD NTSC (All Zone). You can play it on North America DVD players and computers.

Shipping / Pickup / Delivery...

Is Mail Service a reliable service to ship my video tapes?
All our packages are shipped through Expedited Parcel with a tracking number.
We have a good experience with Canada Post. Although there were a few delays with delivery but they did not lose any our package.

Not comfortable mailing tapes. They are like TREASURE to us...
Use courier service to send your tapes to us.

We always save your temporary video files till the confirmation you received your DVDs and tapes back. If something will be wrong we will do another DVD set for you free of charge.

Only after we get your delivery confirmation we delete your temporary video files.

Do I need any special packaging to ship my video in?
No, you do not need any special packaging. However, we do recommend that you ship it in a package that contains bubble wrap for greater physical protection of your tape

What about shipping and handling?
All orders are shipped via mail with tracking numbers unless otherwise requested. Shipping prices are found on each of the order forms.

What about pick-up and delivery?
If you order more than 6 DVDs, we can provide local pick-up/delivery services.

It's available for GTA (Ontario) only - Toronto, Scarborough, Markham, North York, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton.

Yes, you can drop off your properly packaged tapes to our mailboxes:

Can I pick-up my order?
Yes, you can. But we have no ‘payment on pick-up’ option. The payment should be done advance.

Services

How long it takes to have my videos converted to DVDs?
Generally it takes 3-7 business days after we receive your tapes. It depends on our current workload.
In some cases it can take up to two weeks. Please contact us for details.

Do you charge for PAL-to-NTSC converting??
No extra charge for PAL-to-NTSC converting.

Can I combine multiple video tapes to create a single DVD?
We transfer one video tape onto one DVD - that is our basic service.
However we can combine video tapes (even segments of video tapes) to create a single DVD. The charges will be per tape.

What procedure do you use for encoding, burning, etc...
We use video recording process not encoding. We transfer one tape to one DVD AS IS. No editing.

Can you edit my video?
We do not edit your video tapes during basic transfer process because we are not watching your video! Your DVD will contain exactly the same material as your tapes.

But you can order video editing as an additional service - see details for our video editorial service.

What is your phone number?

Problem with filling out the form for pricing: I can't check my video tapes therefore I can't calculate how many dvds you would make and therefore have difficulty arriving at pricing...
Do not worry about the filling out our form for pricing. Our service is extremely flexible. After your DVDs have been processed we'll send you an invoice with exact quantity of your DVDs and you can pay it online or on delivery.
